Lunched Cocktail recipes

To me, mixing a cocktail is just like preparing a food dish. If you have all the right ingredients, and put them together in the correct way, you get something that tastes fantastic.

"Sir, if you were my husband, I would poison your drink"
— Lady Astor to Winston Churchill

"Madam, if you were my wife, I would drink it"
— Winston Churchill's reply

Cocktails don't necessarily have to be drank whilst wearing a lounge suit, and trying to eat some pointless little snack set in aspic jelly, nor do they have to be drank by the jug full on a club 18 - 30 holiday. They're simply about creating a tasty drink. Here are some of my favourites.

Harvey Wallbanger

I love this drink.

2 parts gin, 2 parts vodka, 1 part galliano, orange juice

Mix all ingredients in a tall glass over ice.

Tequila Sunrise

2 floz tequila, 4 floz orange juice, 1 floz grenadine

Shake all ingredients and serve over ice in a highball glass.

Gin and Sin

2 floz gin, 1 floz lemon juice, 1 floz orange juice, 1/2 tsp grenadine

Shake with crushed ice, and strain into a cocktail glass.

Firefly

2 floz vodka, 4 floz grapefruit juice, 1 floz grenadine

Mix the vodka and grapefruit juice over ice and add the grenadine.

Godmother

2 floz vodka, 1 floz ammareto

shake with ice and strain into a highball glass.

Long Island Tea

So many variations of this, but heres one I do.

1 floz vodka, 1 floz gin, 1 floz bacardi, 1 floz tequila, 1 floz lemon juice, coca cola

Mix all spirits and lemon juice in a tall glass over ice, top with the coca cola.

Lolita

1.5 floz tequila, 1 tbsp runny honey, juice of 1 lime, 2 dashes angostura bitters

Shake with ice and serve in a stemmed cocktail glass.

Dry Martini

French vermouth, gin

Fill a shaker with ice, add a little french vermouth. Shake then strain off the vermouth. Add the ice to the glass, and add 2 floz of gin.

Pink Gin

A sadly forgotten classic.

Angostura bitters, gin

Dash some angostura bitters into a cocktail glass, swirl and tip out the excess, add 2 floz gin.

Pimms Royale

Pimms no.1, champagne, sliced strawberries, raspberries and peaches, mint leaves

Pour a measure of the Pimms into a glass jug, as advised on the bottle. Fill with the champage, bung in the fruit and mint, stir to create a highly refreshing, highly intoxicating summer cocktail.

Pain Killer

A drink served in Tortola.

2oz dark rum, 1 oz coconut rum (malibu), 1 oz orange juice, 4 oz pineapple juice, fresh nutmeg, ice

Mix all the liquids, serve in a tall glass over ice, sprinkled with freshly grated nutmeg.
